Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s statement about amending the Constitution to provide reservations based on religion has triggered sharp criticism from BJP leaders. The opposition has accused the Congress of attempting to divide the country and undermine the existing reservation system.

Sambit Patra: "Congress Wants a Second Partition"

BJP MP Sambit Patra launched a scathing attack on the Congress, drawing a parallel between former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s role in the Partition and the present leadership.

"Nehru ji partitioned the nation to keep his ambition alive. To become the PM, he divided Maa Bharti into two on the basis of religion... Today, the Gandhi family is doing the same. They are speaking of giving Muslim reservations a place in the Constitution—Baba Saheb Ambedkar was against it. They want a partition of India once again because Rahul Gandhi is politically unfit. He is conspiring to become a leader somewhere by dividing the nation and changing the Constitution of the country. India won't tolerate this."

Patra alleged that Congress was deliberately pushing for religion-based reservations to consolidate a vote bank while disregarding the principles of the Constitution.

Pratyush Kanth: "Will Congress Take Away SC, ST, OBC Reservations?"

BJP leader Pratyush Kanth also criticized the Congress and Rahul Gandhi over Shivakumar’s remarks.

"Rahul Gandhi ke kareebi, Karnataka ke Up-Mukhya Mantri DK Shivakumar ne kaha hai ki dharm ke aadhar par aarakshan dene ke liye samvidhan mein badlav karenge. Haath mein laal kitaab lekar samvidhan ke sabse bade rakshak banne ka dhong karne wale Rahul Gandhi kya apne neta ki baat ka samarthan karte hain? Kya Congress party samvidhan mein badlav kar SC, ST aur OBC ka aarakshan chheen ek vishesh samuday ko dena chahti hai?"

(Translation: Rahul Gandhi’s close aide, Karnataka’s Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, has said that the Constitution will be changed to provide reservation based on religion. Will Rahul Gandhi, who pretends to be the greatest protector of the Constitution with the red book in hand, support his leader’s statement? Does the Congress party want to change the Constitution to take away SC, ST, and OBC reservations and give them to a particular community?)

Shehzad Poonawalla: "Congress Is Anti-Reservation"

BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Congress of betraying the backward communities and violating constitutional principles.

"Cat is out of the bag. Congress has accepted that they are ready to change the Constitution to give illegal reservation to Muslims. Congress is the biggest threat to the Constitution and is anti-reservation, anti-Ambedkar, and anti SC ST OBC."

Poonawalla claimed that Congress had always tried to manipulate the reservation system for political gains and that their latest move was proof of their agenda.

DK Shivakumar’s Clarification

Amid the backlash, DK Shivakumar later clarified that his statement was being misinterpreted. He stated that the proposed 4% reservation was not exclusively for Muslims but for all backward classes and minorities. However, the BJP continues to accuse the Congress of attempting to introduce religion-based quotas in defiance of the Constitution.
