On Karnataka Rajyotsava, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar highlighted the importance of hoisting the Karnataka flag across all institutions. The government aims to strengthen Kannada pride and unity, making flag hoisting on this special day mandatory for every institution in the state.

Why Karnataka Rajyotsava Is Significant for the State

Karnataka Rajyotsava, observed annually on November 1, celebrates the state's formation in 1956. It is a day to honor Karnataka’s heritage, language, and culture. The event is marked with ceremonies, cultural events, and now, a new mandate from the state government.

Flag Hoisting Becomes Mandatory for All Institutions

This year, Dy CM DK Shivakumar announced that all educational institutions, businesses, and factories must hoist the Karnataka flag to commemorate Rajyotsava. Shivakumar pointed out that the display of the flag, even if cultural events are not organized, is crucial in marking the day. He directed companies, schools, and other establishments to participate actively in this symbolic celebration.

Guidelines for Hoisting the Karnataka Flag

The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has clarified how to correctly hoist the Karnataka flag to ensure consistency across the state. According to KDA chairperson Purushotama Bilimale:

  1. Flag Colors and Design: The Karnataka flag must feature yellow on the top and red on the bottom.
  2. Material Requirements: Only Khadi or hand-woven fabric should be used for the flag.
  3. Placement Protocol: The flag should be positioned below the national flag on flagpoles.
  4. Flag Sizes: Various sizes are available in the market, and establishments can select based on their requirements.

Observance Instructions - Lowering the Flag on the Same Day

KDA also instructed institutions and citizens to lower the flag by the end of the day and ensure that flags are not left unattended after Rajyotsava day. This practice aims to maintain respect for the symbol while fostering responsibility among citizens.

Celebrations Around Karnataka

The state has prepared vibrant festivities across cities, especially in Bengaluru. Vidhana Soudha, Karnataka’s legislative building, is illuminated to celebrate the day. Many commercial establishments have also joined in by decorating storefronts with the Karnataka flag, embodying the festive spirit.
