On August 26, 2025, Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials raided the residence of Saurabh Bharadwaj, former minister of Delhi and current Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, as part of a money-laundering investigation into the alleged irregularities in the construction of hospitals in Delhi-NCR. Searches were conducted at 13 places, including Bharadwaj’s home, in a probe of financial misconduct in the development of health infrastructure. The ED action is part of a wider investigation into the possible misappropriation of public money in the former AAP government.
Kejriwal Slams ED Raid, Calls It Political Vendetta
Reacting sharply to the ED raid on Saurabh Bharadwaj’s residence, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal accused the central government of misusing investigative agencies.
On X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:
“The ED raid at Saurabh Bhardwaj’s house is another case of the Modi government misusing agencies… The way AAP is being targeted has never been done to any party in history. AAP is not one to be scared of these BJP raids. We will continue to raise our voice against wrong policies and corruption in the interest of the country.”
Manish Sisodia Links Raid to PM Modi’s Degree Row
Former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia also took to X to hit out at the BJP government, alleging that the raids were meant to divert attention from questions over the Prime Minister’s educational qualifications.
He posted: “The only reason behind the ED raid at Saurabh Bhardwaj’s house is that yesterday a big revelation was made about the Prime Minister’s degree… it came to the fore in the country that the Prime Minister lied about the degree. So to divert attention from the issue… ED is raiding Saurabh Bharadwaj’s house.”
Why Did ED Raid Saurabh Bharadwaj’s Residence?
According to reports, the ED raids were linked to an alleged scam in the construction of government hospitals in Delhi. In 2018–19, the Delhi government had sanctioned nearly ₹5,590 crore for the construction of 24 hospitals. Financial irregularities were suspected in this project, and as part of the investigation, the agency conducted searches at around 13 locations connected to AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj.
