Farmers Protest: Protesting Farmers Halt March to Delhi After Clashes with Police at Border

Farmers Protest: After a day marked by clashes with the police, farmer unions decided to temporarily halt their march to Delhi for the night, announcing the protest’s resumption on Wednesday morning. The decision came as over 60 people, including farmers and media personnel, sustained injuries throughout the day when the police employed water cannons and tear gas to disperse protesters at the Punjab-Haryana border.

Although the unions reported approximately 100 farmers injured during the day, the situation escalated when Haryana Police detained protesting farmers at Shambhu along the border with Punjab. The farmers reportedly pelted stones, damaged a bridge, and attempted to forcibly remove barricades erected to impede their march to Delhi.

While the Punjab Police permitted protesting farmers to cross the Rajpura bypass on their way to Haryana’s Ambala, tensions flared at the Punjab-Haryana Shambhu border. Demonstrators tried to break cement barricades using their tractors, resulting in some vandalizing a bridge and tossing a police barricade from the structure.
