Fresh MCD polls likely to be held on April 26, says AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will likely hold elections for the next mayor and deputy mayor by the end of this month. According to sources in the civic body, the elections will be held either on April 26 or April 28. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader on Sunday also said that elections for the civic body are expected to be held on April 26.

Shelly Oberoi suggests mayor elections date

The incumbent Mayor Shelly Oberoi has suggested the date for the fresh elections for the post. After her suggestion, the MCD commissioner will send the recommendation to the Lieutenant-Governor’s office, via the Delhi government.

Saurabh Bhardwaj, who is a nominated member of MCD, while speaking to ANI, said, “It is necessary to conduct the election in April. Incumbent Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has set April 26 as the date for this.”

“I hope for the election to be held in a peaceful manner if all rules and regulations are followed by LG Office,” he added.

AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj attacks Delhi LG

The AAP leader further attacked Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinai Kumar Saxena, and said, “It was very unfortunate that LG nominated a presiding officer for the mayoral election who created hurdles in smooth conduct of the poll.”

“They even tried to allow nominated members (aldermen) to vote against the constitution, for which the Supreme Court slammed them,” Bhardwaj further alleged.

“The court said that it was wrong. That’s why it would like to request that only the right person should be chosen to hold the mayoral election,” he said.

Shelly Oberoi was elected mayor of Delhi in the fourth attempt on February 22 after ruckus between BJP and AAP.
