Ghaziabad News: RapidX on Track! Big Infrastructure Boost; 17km Section Set for Launch Soon

Ghaziabad News

Ghaziabad News: The 17km “priority section” of RapidX, the nation’s first semi-highspeed rail transit system with trains built for a top speed of 160kmph, will launch after the tracks are cleared. The 82km Sahibabad Duhai stretch of the Delhi-Meerut RapidX line, which is wholly in Ghaziabad, was approved by the commissioner for metro rail safety (CMRS) on Tuesday.

Safety Certification Process for Commercial Operations

Before any commercial operations can start, the safety certificate must be presented. The certificate came after the CMRS inspected the priority section, which involved looking at the gearbox system, train speeds, and fire safety as well as emergency evacuation procedures. The 160kmph operational speed for the trains was also approved by the railway ministry. “After a month of review, the safety certificate for passenger operations on the 17 kilometre segment has been issued. When starting operations, both the metro and other transport services like RapidX must have the certificate,” according to a representative of the NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the company building the corridor. “Over the course of the past month, the CMRS has examined every safety feature. The gearbox system, the fastest a train can travel, firefighting gear and emergency passenger evacuation procedures were all looked at. We are prepared to begin operations now that the safety certificate has arrived,” the official continued.

RapidX Trains Set to Operate at 160 kmph

A fleet of 10 trains that have been undergoing tests since December of last year will be used to launch the services. “Each RapidX train will operate at a top speed of 160 kmph even though its design speed is 180 kmph. During the dynamic tests, we were able to operate at this speed, the official added. Expected average speed is in the range of 100kmph. The first time a RapidX train reached 160 kmph was during testing in January. The priority section includes Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot as its five stations. The goal is to complete the corridor between Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut by June 2025.
