Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) is set to receive a major upgrade with the inauguration of its revamped Terminal 1 (T1) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, likely around February 25th. This state-of-the-art facility promises to enhance passenger convenience and expedite both departures and arrivals.

Bigger and Better T1

The revamped T1, set to be two-and-a-half times larger than its predecessor, integrates the previously separate sections for arrivals and departures into one expansive facility. This consolidation aims to streamline passenger movements and reduce transit times significantly.

Improved Passenger Convenience

One of the significant enhancements includes the introduction of aerobridges, termed as "smart aprons," facilitating seamless boarding and disembarking directly from the aircraft. This eliminates the need for shuttle buses, thereby expediting the departure and arrival process.

Furthermore, the terminal will feature self-baggage drop facilities and check-in kiosks, empowering passengers with greater control over their travel experience. With 108 Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) check-in kiosks, flyers can access multiple airline services conveniently from one location.

Tech-Savvy Amenities

Stay connected and comfortable throughout your journey. T1 boasts charging points at every seat in the boarding area, ensuring your devices are always ready to go. Smart washrooms with visual indicators for occupancy and cleaning status add another layer of convenience.

Enhanced Connectivity and Capacity

The revamp doesn't stop there! T1 paves the way for better connectivity with plans to temporarily convert Terminal 2 (T2) into a concourse for short-haul international flights. This strategic move is expected to increase passenger capacity by 8-9 million, catering to growing travel demands for the next few years.
