Gurugram Woman Locked Self, Son For 3 Years In House To Escape Covid-19

A woman in Gurugram’s Chakkarpur kept herself along with her young son in their home for three years out of extreme worry about contracting COVID-19. The woman’s husband Sujan Majhi, an engineer working in a private company, approached the police officers stationed at the Chakkarpur police station and revealed the shocking incident.

On Tuesday, at his request, a team of police, health officials, and personnel of the child welfare department arrived to the house, forced through the front door, and freed Munmun Majhi and her son, age 10, from their captivity. Unsettling images from inside the house reveal a scattered pile of clothes, hair, trash, and groceries.

How they lived for 3 year?

The boy’s mother used to trim her own hair as well as the child’s hair at home. In the meanwhile, the house had an induction stove for cooking rather than a gas stove. Even the garbage in the house went three years without being cleaned of, and no one had ever been inside.

The fact that they were both locked inside the house at this time remained unknown to the neighbours. According to a police officer, the mother was afraid of Covid-19 and thought her son would die if he left the house.

The woman kept her husband out of the house for the entire three years she was imprisoned with her son. After the initial lockdown restrictions were released in 2020, he left the house to run for office and hasn’t been allowed back in since.

Video calls were the only means of communication Mr. Majhi had with his family members. He would buy food and vegetables, pay the house’s monthly rent, pay the electricity bills, deposit his son’s school fees, and even leave the ration bags at the front door.

The mother and son duo was taken directly to the government hospital after being saved.
