Haryana Violence: After Nuh, Mob Sets Fire to Restaurants in Badshahpur, Gurugram

Haryana Violence

Haryana Violence: The reverberations of yesterday’s violence in Nuh, Haryana, have travelled 40 km to Badshahpur. This evening, a mob set restaurants and stores on fire while shouting religious hymns. A religious parade headed by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Nuh, Haryana, on Monday was marred by skirmishes that left four people—two home guards, a civilian, and an Imam—dead and several police officers injured. While the Imam was slain in Gurugram, three persons perished in Nuh. Outside a mosque that was still being built in Gurugram’s Sector-56 on Monday night, two persons were attacked, one of whom was an imam. Imam Mohmmad Saad and Khursheed were attacked by three to four men brandishing sticks. Saad was murdered in the incident, while Khursheed was also shot in the leg and is reportedly in severe condition.

Clashes and Chaos as Mob Blocks Religious March in Nuh

About five people were present in the mosque that was still under construction when the incident took place, according to some of the eye witnesses. People had to conceal themselves. When a mob attempted to block a Vishva Hindu Parishad march on Monday, fighting broke out during the Saffron Yatra in Haryana’s Nuh. Clashes broke out between the two groups, and cars were burned and stones were thrown. Protesters from two communities battled near Sohna Road in Gurugram as news of the violence in Nuh spread, causing damage to multiple vehicles. Also, protesters spent hours blocking a road.

Paramilitary Deployment and Section 144 Imposed to Quell Unrest in Haryana

According to a Haryana government official, “The situation is under control in Nuh, Sohna and adjoining districts. As many as 13 Companies of Paramilitary forces have been stationed there and more companies will be reaching shortly. No curfew is imposed in Faridabad, Palwal and Gurugram, however, section 144 is imposed to avoid any untoward incident in these districts. Peace Committee meeting will commence shortly in Gurugram’s Sohna.”
