Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda has questioned the BJP-led Haryana government’s farmer-friendly claims after reports emerged of grain rotting in mandis due to poor storage and delayed procurement arrangements. He said the situation exposes the gap between the government’s promises and the ground reality faced by farmers.Dhanda alleged that despite heavy rainfall and crop damage, the administration failed to arrange adequate tarpaulins, lifting, and procurement systems in mandis. According to him, lakhs of quintals of wheat were left exposed, putting farmers’ hard-earned produce at risk of spoilage.
What Dhanda Alleged?
The AAP leader claimed that Haryana received nearly 70 per cent more rainfall than normal in March and April 2026, affecting around 23 lakh hectares of agricultural land. He further alleged that early crop lodging caused losses of 10 to 15 per cent for many farmers.Dhanda said that instead of protecting the harvested crop, the government allowed mandis to overflow with wheat heaps while tarpaulin shortage left grain uncovered. He described the situation as a complete administrative failure.
Attack on BJP’s Farmer Claims
Questioning the BJP’s repeated assurances to farmers, Dhanda said the government was using the moisture argument to stall wheat procurement. He alleged that the administration itself failed to protect crops from rain but was now citing 12 per cent moisture to deny farmers a fair purchase process. He said a farmer who brings produce to the mandi does not want assurances, but timely government procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP). Dhanda argued that delays, moisture-related deductions, gate-pass issues, and slow lifting have worsened the distress of Haryana’s farmers.
AAP’s Demand
Dhanda demanded immediate procurement of damaged and moisture-affected crops, proper covering arrangements in mandis, and compensation for farmers who suffered losses due to unseasonal rain. He said the government must ensure that no farmer is forced to sell produce below MSP or watch harvested grain rot in the open. The AAP leader also accused the BJP government of making big announcements on MSP and farmer welfare while failing to provide basic procurement infrastructure. He said the rotting grain is not just a administrative lapse but a symbol of broken promises made to Haryana’s farming community.
Political Significance
The controversy has intensified the political confrontation between AAP and the BJP in Haryana, where farm procurement, MSP, crop damage, and compensation remain sensitive issues. Dhanda’s remarks are part of AAP’s broader attack on the Nayab Singh Saini-led government over alleged neglect of farmers’ interests. The BJP government has not been quoted in the cited reports responding directly to Dhanda’s specific allegations regarding rotting grain. The issue is likely to remain politically charged as farmers continue to seek assured procurement and timely relief.
