Anurag Dhanda Questions Nayab Singh Saini Over ‘Youth Joining’ Claim in Punjab

Political observers say such exchanges are likely to intensify as parties step up outreach efforts and messaging campaigns in the run-up to upcoming elections

A political exchange has erupted after AAP leader Anurag Dhanda criticised Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini over a social media post claiming that youth from Punjab were joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. The controversy comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Anurag Dhanda Questions Nayab Singh Saini Over ‘Youth Joining’

The dispute began when Saini, currently on a visit to Punjab, posted that students from a university student group had expressed faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and joined the BJP during an event in Chandigarh. He welcomed them into the party fold and thanked attendees present at the programme.

Dhanda alleged that individuals mentioned in the post were actually residents of Haryana

Responding to the claim, Dhanda alleged that individuals mentioned in the post were actually residents of Haryana and questioned how they were being described as Punjab youth. He suggested that the same individuals had previously been associated with political activities in Haryana and accused the Chief Minister of misrepresenting their background.

The AAP leader further argued that presenting participants from another state as local supporters could mislead the public about political support on the ground. He called for clarification regarding the identities and affiliations of those cited in the announcement.

The BJP has not issued a detailed public response to Dhanda’s remarks so far. Political observers say such exchanges are likely to intensify as parties step up outreach efforts and messaging campaigns in the run-up to upcoming elections, with both sides seeking to shape public perception and strengthen their support base.
