Government Wheat Procurement Falls Short of Target in the State

Of this, government agencies have so far procured 69.37 lakh metric tonnes of wheat. Farmers have been paid ₹16,138 crore in exchange for wheat procurement during the current Rabi season. Last year, 63.17 lakh metric tonnes of wheat were procured in the state.

This year, the state has witnessed wheat production of 112 lakh metric tonnes. According to traders, wheat production remained as estimated during the season, but last year, the prices were considerably higher. Consequently, with the increase in procurement by millers alongside stockists, wheat prices surged above the support price in the market. Hence, there has been a decrease in wheat arrivals at government procurement centers.
