The approval was confirmed by a senior official of the Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMBCL). It is likely that the electric buses would join the state’s bus fleet by the month of April 2026.
Haryana News-Broader Impact On Commuters
For daily wage earners, students, and office-goers, this signals relief. Diesel buses belch fumes amid NCR’s poor AQI, while private vehicles clog highways like NH-48. Commuters endure hour-long delays, unsafe autos and high fares.
Haryana’s bus fleet, managed by GMBCL and Haryana Roadways, covers limited routes, forcing reliance on overcrowded metros or cabs. Saini’s plan deploys 200 zero-emission e-buses, likely air-conditioned with GPS tracking, Wi-Fi and women-only sections, mirroring Delhi’s successful DTC EV model.
Will 200 Buses Solve the Crisis?
Electric buses cut costs by 60 percent over diesel, slashing emissions by 40 percent per studies on similar fleets. Gurugram’s existing 50-e-bus pilot reduced breakdowns; scaling to 200 could add more than 100 daily trips, serving IT hubs like Cyber City and industrial belts. Faridabad gains from connectivity to Delhi borders, easing cross-state travel. Integration with Haryana’s UTS app for digital ticketing promises seamless rides.
The EV bus initiative aligns with his focus on sustainable development, echoing national green goals under PM Modi. Gurugram and Faridabad, key NCR satellites, face explosive growth – Gurugram’s population nears 3 million, Faridabad 1.8 million, straining roads with traffic jams, pollution, and erratic buses.
