Weather Update January 3 2026: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an extended spell of dense fog, intense winter weather, cold wave, rainfall and snowfall in northern and hilly areas of the country.

Isolated regions in Amritsar, Bijnore, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Panipat and Sonepat are likely to experience dense, thick fog and chilly waves. In contrast, Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Delhi, Hastinapur, Saharanpur and Meerut may experience thick fog accompanied by cold waves, especially during the early morning hours.
Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand
Scattered to moderate snowfall accompanied with rainfall is likely to happen in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This may result in reduced visibility, slipper roads and temporary to short-term disruptions in hilly terrains.
Isolated regions in Western Himalayan Region Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit Baltistan-Muzaffarabad are likely to experience bone-chilling cold and snowfall accompanied with moderate rainfall throughout the day. Uttarakhand is likely to experience dense fog in the morning hours.
West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha
The West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha are likely to experience a pleasant weather, only marked by light to moderate fog in early hours.
Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam
Dense, thick fog is likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
Maharashtra and Goa
Maharashtra and Goa are likely to experience moderate rain showers, especially during late evening and early morning hours.
Southern States, Puducherry and Daman & Diu
The states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu as well as Puducherry and Daman & Diu are likely to experience widespread rainfall activity.
