Weather Update January 9 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a spell of contrasting but challenging weather conditions on January 9.
IMD predicts that large parts of India could come under a blend of persistent dense fog, cold wave conditions and intense and heavy rainfall over southern coastal states.
It was also predicted that northern, eastern and central regions of the country would see winter tightening its grip, especially during the early morning and night hours.
Weather Update January 9 2026-Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan
Cold weather conditions are likely to prevail over Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Delhi, Hastinapur, Saharanpur and Meerut. The IMD has issued orange alert for dense fog for Delhi NCR.
Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand
Many regions in Western Himalayan Region Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit Baltistan-Muzaffarabad would receive fresh snowfall, which may severely impact transportation and movement of residents. Uttarakhand’s hilly areas are likely to witness bone-chilling cold waves and falling minimum temperatures.
Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam
The states of Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam are likely to witness intense ground frost and thick fog, especially in early morning hours. Visibility levels are also likely to be impact, especially in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha
East Rajasthan is expected to experience severe cold day conditions at isolated places throughout the day. Many regions in parts of West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha are likely to witness chilling early morning cold wave conditions.
Southern States, Puducherry and Daman & Diu
Heavy, intense rainfall is likely at isolated places over Karaikal, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. This signals an active weather phase over the country’s southern peninsula.
