Right to health bill Rajasthan: On Monday, thousands of doctors protested the Right to Health Bill in Rajasthan, disrupting healthcare services all over the state. The largest medical group in the nation, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), has declared support for the Rajasthani physicians. Last Monday, the state Legislature approved the Measure. The state government asserted that many of the doctors’ complaints had already been addressed in the most recent version of the Act, despite the fact that doctors have branded the Bill harsh.

The demonstrators contend that while the Bill penalises physicians and institutions, patients receive little benefit from it. The most contentious part of the Bill requires all hospitals, public and private, to provide emergency care when necessary without requiring payment in advance. Dr. Sharad Kumar Agarwal, the national president of the IMA, who participated in the protest in Rajasthan on Monday, said, “Health is a right of every citizen, but ensuring it is the duty of the state government. They are placing the burden on doctors because they are unable to do it themselves. Although we are prepared to assist the government, we cannot take on all the burden.”

Government will pay hospitals back
Although the Act does state that the government will pay hospitals back, the demonstrators claim that it is unclear how or when these funds will arrive. Others asserted that the dispute resolution procedures specified in the Bill won’t allow doctors to practise in peace. However, several doctors continue to be confused and are referring to the previous Bill that was given to the Select Committee. The Jaipur Association of Resident Physicians’ former president, Dr. Amit Yadav, stated: “The Bill has a number of issues. One, they don’t define an emergency when they claim hospitals must offer emergency services.
