India is set to witness the launch of its first semi high-speed Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, which is expected to operate on the Delhi–Patna route. According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off this new category of train service next month.
India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Likely to Run Between Delhi and Patna
The Vande Bharat Sleeper is designed with state-of-the-art features, including premium catering services, enhanced passenger comfort, and a maximum speed capacity of 160 kmph. Unlike the existing chair-car versions of Vande Bharat, the sleeper variant is aimed at long-distance overnight journeys.
Railway officials have indicated that the fare for the new train will be 10–15% higher than Rajdhani Express, given its advanced features. A dynamic fare system will also be applicable, similar to other premium trains. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is expected to brief the media next week with further details about the route, pricing, and onboard facilities.
While the final decision on its route is yet to be confirmed, sources suggest that in view of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, the first service is likely to be introduced between Delhi and Patna. This would significantly benefit lakhs of passengers, especially during festive travel.
Bihar to Get Festive Season Boost with 12,000 Special Trains
In addition to the Vande Bharat Sleeper announcement, Bihar is set to receive another major gift from Indian Railways this festive season. Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Choudhary, thanked PM Modi and Railway Minister Vaishnaw for approving 12,000 special trains during the Diwali and Chhath festival period.
These special services will operate for two months to ease the massive festive rush and ensure convenient travel for migrants returning home. Choudhary mentioned that the decision came after a special request from CM Nitish Kumar, given the annual struggle of passengers during festival travel.
Railway Minister Vaishnaw added that the initiative also includes a pilot project for round-trip travel packages, making festive journeys more affordable and hassle-free for families.
