By the end of December, the fully equipped sleeper version of the high-speed Vande Bharat series will begin running between New Delhi and Patna, offering passengers a faster, more comfortable overnight travel option.

According to officials, two 16-coach rakes are currently in the final stages of completion at BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited), Bengaluru. One rake is already finished and will be dispatched for Northern Railway on December 12, after which a trial run will be conducted on the Delhi–Patna route.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: 827 total berths across three classes

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will feature a total of 16 coaches, including:

  • 11 AC 3-tier coaches with 611 berths
  • 4 AC 2-tier coaches with 188 berths

Railway officials from Danapur Division confirmed that preparations are in full swing to start regular services by the end of this month.

To run 6 days a week, matching Tejas Rajdhani timings

Just like the existing Vande Bharat Express services, the sleeper variant will also operate six days a week.
From Patna, the train is expected to depart around the time of the Rajendra Nagar–New Delhi Tejas Rajdhani, reaching Delhi the next morning. The return journey from Delhi will follow a similar timetable.

Modern facilities and upgraded safety features
The Vande Bharat Sleeper is built with several advanced features, including:

  • Automatic doors
  • Bio-toilets
  • CCTV surveillance
  • Reading lights
  • Modern interiors
  • Crash-worthy, safer coach design
  • ‘Kavach’ anti-collision system

Designed for a top speed of 160 km/h, the train promises a smoother and faster travel experience. Depending on demand, the number of coaches may also be increased from 16 to 24 in the future.

This upcoming launch marks a significant milestone in enhancing long-distance travel for the State and People, combining safety, speed, and comfort in line with India’s ongoing railway modernization push.
