Indore tragedy: After the unfortunate incident at Indore’s Beleshwar temple in Madhya Pradesh on Ram Navami, more than five bulldozers rolled at the site to demolish the illegal construction. A large contingent of police personnel along with municipal authorities reached the temple on Monday to monitor the procedure.
FIR against temple officials
After the accident, a First Information Report was registered against Several Galani, president of Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple Trust, and its secretary Murli Kumar Sabnani under IPC section 304, police station in charge Neeraj Medha said.
"The Indore municipal corporation had ordered the trust to remove the illegal construction in the temple complex, but the trust did not comply with the order. Both the accused have not been arrested as yet," Medha informed.
36 people dead after tragedy
On Ram Navami, Thursday, the roof of a bawdi collapsed during the celebration which resulted into a situation of panic. The rescue operations were launched as civil defence teams along with police and SDRF teams rushed to the site along with locals. To assist the rescue mission, a rescue team from nearby Mhow town was also called. The rescue team pulled people from the dump.
The temple was constructed 100 years ago but the step well was covered 25 years ago. The step wellbroke after the premise being crowded on the occasion of Ram Navami. A havan was being performed on the step well when the incident took place.
At least 36 people were reported dead after the tragedy. The deceased include 20 women, 12 men, and four children.
“By Thursday evening, we had rescued 19 people and recovered 13 bodies. It was only by late on Thursday night that we had a complete list of the missing people. There was complete darkness, and it was only by the evening when the NDRF and the Indian Army reached on Thursday that the operation picked up pace when the collapsed stone slabs that had added to the debris in the water,” the officials said.
