Karnataka CBI: The political situation in Karnataka is getting tense. The Congress-led state government has decided to stop allowing general permission to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate cases in the state. This decision comes as serious allegations are being made against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA (Mysore Urban Development Authority) land scam. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla strongly criticised the Congress. He accused the party of trying to avoid justice.
Karnataka CM Under Fire For MUDA Scam
At the heart of the controversy is the MUDA scam, in which it is alleged that the Karnataka Chief Minister’s wife was improperly allotted 14 sites, valued at Rs 56 crore, by the Mysore Urban Development Authority. The Special Court in Bengaluru recently directed the Lokayukta police to file a criminal case against the CM and others involved, citing potential violations related to corruption, benami property holdings, and land grabbing.
The CM, however, remains defiant. He has made it clear that he has no intention of stepping down, responding to the calls for his resignation by drawing comparisons with other political figures like HD Kumaraswamy. “I won’t resign; why should I resign? There are allegations on HD Kumaraswamy, did he resign? Let Kumaraswamy resign,” the CM remarked.
BJP’s Sharp Criticism: ‘Congress is Bhrashtachar Ki Dukan’
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla took a strong stance against the Karnataka government, saying, “It is completely clear that Congress has become ‘Bhrashtachar ki Dukan’ (shop of corruption).” He further emphasized that instead of addressing the charges against the CM, the Congress is trying to shield itself from investigation by withdrawing the state’s consent for the CBI to probe any matter within its borders.
Poonawalla referred to a recent High Court order in the MUDA scam, stating that the Special Court had directed the filing of an FIR. “Instead of resigning, the CM is showing arrogance,” he said, accusing the state leadership of using this as a last-ditch effort to avoid scrutiny.
Withdrawal of CBI Consent in Karnataka
The withdrawal of general consent for the CBI by state governments has become a contentious issue in recent years, and Karnataka is the latest to join the list. By doing so, the state government now restricts the CBI from probing any case without its permission, making it harder for the central agency to investigate high-profile cases like the MUDA scam.
Poonawalla argued that this move is nothing but a ploy by Congress to avoid facing legal consequences. “This is evidence of how they are trying to save themselves. But whoever has done corruption has to pay the price,” he said, urging Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to take action.
BJP’s Accusations of Land Looting
The BJP has not only focused on the ongoing MUDA scam but has also broadened its attack on the Congress party’s governance model. Poonawalla alleged that land looting is a pattern seen wherever Congress comes into power. “They loot wherever they come into power. If they somehow come to power in Haryana, they will loot there also,” he said, calling out the Congress for its alleged history of corruption.
