Karnataka News: Protest Over Hanuman Flag Removal in Mandya, Security Tightened

Discover the repercussions of the Hanuman flag removal in Karnataka's Mandya district and the ensuing protests, as security measures are intensified.

Karnatak News: In the wake of heightened tensions following the removal of a Hanuman flag in Karnataka’s Mandya district, extensive security measures have been implemented. A substantial police force has been deployed, responding to a call for a protest rally by the BJP and Janata Dal-Secular (JDS).

Protest in Bengaluru

Protesters gathered in Bengaluru, expressing their discontent over the flag removal. Chanting slogans, including ‘Jai Shri Ram,’ they blocked roads, leading to police intervention and detentions.

Controversy in Keragodu Village

Similar protests unfolded in Keragodu village, sparked by the removal of a Hanuman flag from a 108-foot flagpole. Defying prohibitory orders, locals gathered, and the situation escalated. A subsequent ‘bandh’ was called by villagers, prompting a mild lathi charge by the police to restore order.

CM Siddaramaiah’s Response

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticized the incident, asserting that hoisting the Hanuman flag instead of the national flag was inappropriate.

He accused the BJP of orchestrating a plot against the state government, alleging a deliberate attempt to incite communal tensions in Mandya in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
