There is a lot of political turmoil in Karnataka right now because the Congress is planning its leadership behind the scenes. Senior party leaders like President Mallikarjun Kharge and veteran leader R.V. Deshpande have recently said things that have sparked new rumours about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's future and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar's rise in the political ranks. This has kept Karnataka politics in the national news.

The High Command of Congress is in charge

Mallikarjun Kharge made it clear that the Congress high command is the only one that can make choices about the chief ministerial position. He warned against unnecessary problems and pushed for peace within the party.

At the same time, R.V. Deshpande, a seasoned tactician and the head of Karnataka's Administrative Reforms Commission, stepped in to make things clearer. He made it clear that Siddaramaiah will serve out his full five-year term.

DK Shivakumar Had to Show His Patience

There were a lot of eyes on D.K. Shivakumar because his political career has been linked to that of the chief minister. When the Congress party came back to power in May 2023, there was a fierce fight within the party. In the end, Siddaramaiah became CM, and Shivakumar became deputy CM. Since then, people in Karnataka Politics who support Shivakumar have been waiting for his next political chance, should Siddaramaiah step down.

There have been new rumours that Shivakumar could have his "day in the sun" if Siddaramaiah quits his job. But what Kharge and Deshpande said recently pretty much killed those chances, at least for now. Based on what they all said, it looks like there won't be a change in control until at least 2028.

What It Means for Karnataka Politics and Government Stability

Since Siddaramaiah is going to serve the whole term, the government will continue to run smoothly. In line with his earlier policy goals, his government has recently worked on structural reforms, such as pushing for the Kannada language to be used more and rules that favour native speakers of the language.

Joking around, Shivakumar's goal within the Party now waits for either Singh to voluntarily leave or a change in the internal agreement. He will still be deputy CM until then, which means he has power but not full charge.

Setting up a strategic position by Kharge

As Congress tries to avoid division, Kharge's statement shows that they are following the rules. By following orders from above, he shows unity at a time when the resistance is still closely watching.
