The uproar began when BJP MLA Sunil Kumar demanded an answer from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding the controversy before he could respond to the debate on the 2025–26 State Budget. The BJP and JD(S) have been pressing for a judicial probe by a sitting High Court judge into the alleged honey-trap case involving a minister and other politicians.

As tensions escalated, BJP MLAs stormed the Well of the House and threw papers in front of the Speaker’s chair, leading to their suspension. Karnataka Minister MB Patil defended the Speaker’s decision, stating, "Their behavior was completely unacceptable... The suspension is 100% justified."

The controversy gained traction after Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna revealed in the Assembly that there had been attempts to honey-trap him and that at least 48 politicians across parties had fallen victim to similar schemes.
