Nuh Violence: Dushyant Chautala, the deputy chief minister of Haryana, said on Tuesday that the administration had failed to adequately analyse the situation in Nuh, where racial violence occurred on July 31 during a religious procession. Chautala added that the additional DGP (law and order) had stated that the organisers had been given permission for a parade of 3,200 people, and as a result, the police force was deployed.
Deputy CM Points to 'Lack of Assessment' in Nuh Unrest
"...Lack of assessment by the administration which could not assess this entire episode properly. Nuh SP (now transferred) was on leave since July 22, the one who had the additional charge could not assess it properly and the officials from whom permission (for the procession) was taken too could not assess it properly. It is a point which is under investigation," he told reporters here when asked whether there was an intelligence failure to assess the situation. The JJP leader had previously claimed that the religious procession organisers, who were attacked in Nuh by a mob, did not provide the district administration with an accurate estimate of the expected turnout, which may have contributed to the violence. The district's suspension of mobile internet and SMS services has been extended by the state administration until August 11.
Six Lives Lost in Racial Riots During Procession Clash

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the home minister, Anil Vij, 312 people have been detained overall and 142 FIRs have been filed in relation to the communal disturbances in Haryana. When asked when he learned of the incident on July 31, Chautala responded, "I found out about it around 1:30 pm…I spoke with ADGP (CID) and asked him to send SP Bhiwani there (Nuh)." When asked about reports that several youngsters were among those who engaged in stone-throwing on the parade, he responded that this was the first time such an atmosphere in the state had been intentionally fostered and that harsh action would be taken against everyone participating, minor or major. Chautala responded to claims that "one-sided action was being taken" by asserting that none of the people being detained are members of any particular caste or group.
Deputy CM Highlights Quick Control of Nuh Unrest
The deputy CM said the government was able "to control the situation within seven hours. In some other states, it has been seen such an incident continued for two-three weeks. I think it was our efficiency that we were able to curb anti-social elements". He stated that the curfew has been loosened and would be lifted gradually. Three of the five people suspected of allegedly lighting a fire at a mazar at Khandsa village were taken into custody by the Gurugram police on Tuesday. Police claim that the five men were persuaded by social media posts about the communal confrontations that broke out last week in the surrounding Nuh district and expanded to several sections of the city and its environs. In the meantime, the Muslim organisation Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has petitioned the Supreme Court to request guidelines for the restoration of people whose homes were recently demolished by officials in Haryana's Nuh district.
Court Halt on Nuh Demolitions Lacks Rehabilitation Mandate
In a statement, the Organisation of Muslim Scholars claimed that although the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered a halt to the demolition drive in the violently disturbed Nuh on Monday, it did not mandate their rehabilitation or payment of compensation. In Nuh district's violent villages, a 10-member Haryana Congress team led by party president Udai Bhan was prevented from entering. A senior police officer claimed that the delegation was halted near Rojka Meo village due to the implementation of a curfew in the region and security concerns for the trip. The delegation left after that, according to the police. Government officials have already moved Nuh DSP Jai Prakash to Panchkula. After SP Varun Singla and Deputy Commissioner Prashant Panwar, Prakash is the third officer to have been transferred from Nuh since the unrest began on July 31.
