Lucknow News: Crime in Uttar Pradesh Sees Significant Decline; Murder Cases Down 9%, Robberies 16% in 6 Years

A comprehensive report detailing heinous crimes across all districts of Uttar Pradesh over the past eight months was presented to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Lucknow News: Uttar Pradesh recorded 1,921 murder cases within the last eight months, with 1,322 of them being filed as first information reports (FIRs). Out of these cases, final reports were presented in 90 instances, while investigations were ongoing for 509 cases. Despite a notable decrease of over 9 percent in murder cases over the past six years, as per a government press release shared on Saturday.

Reduction in crime in Uttar Pradesh

Press note stated, “Over the past six years, there has been a 9.02 percent decrease in murder cases in the state. Out of 4,705 accused involved in the above cases, action was taken against 4,230 while 475 accused are wanted and raids are being conducted continuously to arrest them.”

Additionally, top police officials from Uttar Pradesh presented a report covering the first eight months of 2023 to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during a recent law and order review meeting. The report emphasized a noteworthy reduction in serious crimes, including murder, robbery, dacoity, and rape, over the past six years in the state.

In the meeting, a ranking of the top five and bottom five districts, based on their effectiveness in responding promptly and reducing these cases, was presented. The Chief Minister directed authorities to take robust measures against officers in districts with subpar performance, as stated in the press release.

Rise in crime in following districts

The press release noted that Mahoba, Shravasti, Sitapur, Jalaun, and Kaushambi districts have experienced an increase in criminal incidents. Consequently, the Chief Minister instructed officials in these districts to implement stringent measures to address the situation. Notably, decisive action has been taken in cases of murder in Amroha, Jhansi, Jalaun, and Hardoi, whereas Chandauli, Auraiya, Lalitpur, and Banda have shown inadequate performance, as per the press note.

In the last eight months, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a notable reduction of 24.61 percent in robbery cases. In the meeting, officials apprised the Chief Minister that the state had recorded 30 dacoity cases, with charge sheets filed in 18 cases while investigations continued in 12 cases.

Likewise, there were 1,869 reported cases of rape in the state during the same period. Out of these, charge sheets were filed in 1,359 cases, final reports were submitted in 220 cases, and investigations were ongoing in 290 cases.
