The much-discussed 90-degree overbridge in Bhopal's Aishbagh area, which sparked a wave of online buzz and ridicule due to its bizarre sharp turn, has now drawn the attention of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. The CM has confirmed that the technical flaw in the Aishbagh ROB (Railway Overbridge) is being rectified, and work has already begun to address the issue.

Speaking during a Democracy Fighters’ Conference at the CM’s residence, Dr. Yadav said, “The technical fault in the Aishbagh ROB will be fixed. Work is already underway to correct the error. Once resolved, the bridge will be inaugurated soon.” He also emphasized that a detailed investigation is being carried out to identify how the fault occurred and who is responsible for the design failure. Strict action will follow based on the findings.

A Bridge That Went Viral for the Wrong Reasons

The overbridge made headlines not just in Madhya Pradesh, but across the country and even abroad, after videos and images of its bizarre 90-degree turn went viral on social media. Designed to cross the Aishbagh railway line, the sharp corner quickly raised safety concerns and was even called a potential future “black spot” or accident-prone zone by engineering experts.

Constructed at a cost of ₹18 crore, the bridge was widely criticized and sarcastically labeled “a masterpiece of government engineering” by netizens. The controversy forced authorities from both the Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to launch an inquiry. The review concluded that the sharp curve indeed posed a significant safety risk.

One-Year Delay Adds to the Embarrassment

The Aishbagh ROB project began on May 21, 2022, and was originally scheduled to be completed by August 2024. However, it is already running nearly a year behind schedule, with construction still ongoing in June 2025. The bridge spans 648 meters in length and is 8 meters wide.

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for better planning, quality checks, and accountability in public infrastructure projects. For now, Bhopal residents and commuters await a safer and smarter solution to a bridge that became infamous before it was even inaugurated.
