Bodybuilding competition turns into political showdown in Madhya Pradesh, female bodybuilders pose in front of Lord Hanuman, VIDEO

Madhya Pradesh: A bodybuilding contest degenerated into a political duel. Local BJP and Congress politicians fought over a recent bodybuilding competition held in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh. A debate over female bodybuilders standing in front of Lord Hanuman Murti, the sport’s celibate patron deity, sparked the political brawl.

Women bodybuilders posed in front of Hanuman Murti at the 13th Mister Junior Bodybuilding Tournament on March 4 and 5. Some local Congress leaders reportedly sprinkled “ganga jal” and recited “Hanuman Chalisa” at the conclusion of the tournament to “purify” the location.

A team led by Ratlam’s BJP Lawmaker Chaitanya Kashyap and including BJP mayor Prahlad Patel organised the bodybuilding competition. Prahlad Patel and Chaitanya Kashyap were accused of “showcasing obscenity” when a video of the event that appeared on social media showed women bodybuilders posing. Paras Saklecha, a former mayor and current head of the Congress, made the accusation. Mayank Jat, the president of the District Youth Congress Committee, said that Lord Hanuman will punish anyone who took part in the activity.

Hitesh Bajpai, a spokesman for the state BJP, retaliated by asserting that the Congress opposed women succeeding in sports. A few of the event’s organisers sent a police memo requesting action against the Congress leaders. The event, which was staged to celebrate the chief minister’s birthday on Sunday, was allegedly “disrespectful to Hindus and Lord Hanuman,” according to Piyush Babele, the media advisor to MP Congress head Kamal Nath, who asked the chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for an apology.
