Ahead of Simhastha Mahakumbh 2028, Madhya Pradesh is set to receive a major rail connectivity boost with the launch of the Vande Bharat Metro shuttle service between Indore and Ujjain. The high-speed metro train will operate at a speed of up to 160 kmph and is expected to complete the journey in just 40 minutes, significantly reducing travel time between the two key cities.
Indore–Ujjain to Get Vande Bharat Metro Shuttle Ahead of Simhastha 2028
The Vande Bharat Metro will run on existing railway tracks, eliminating the need for laying new tracks. Railway officials have already conducted successful trials on this section at speeds of up to 180 kmph, indicating that the infrastructure is technically ready for high-speed operations. This makes the project both cost-effective and time-efficient.
Travel Time to Be Just 40 Minutes
Designed as a shuttle service, the train will feature 12 fully air-conditioned coaches with a capacity to carry over 3,000 passengers in a single trip. Multiple daily trips are planned to accommodate the heavy passenger flow expected during Simhastha 2028, when millions of devotees are likely to travel to Ujjain.
Indore MP Shankar Lalwani confirmed that he held direct discussions with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who assured that the Vande Bharat Metro service would be operational before Simhastha 2028. Preliminary work, including coach manufacturing and operational planning, has already begun.
Railway officials stated that the Indore–Ujjain corridor is well-suited for high-speed rail movement, making it a strategic route for modern rail expansion. Beyond religious tourism, the project is expected to benefit daily commuters, boost regional economic activity, and enhance overall passenger convenience.
The Indore–Ujjain Vande Bharat Metro is being seen as a landmark step in modernising rail travel in Madhya Pradesh and strengthening connectivity between its major religious and industrial hubs.
