Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced a significant increase in the monthly financial aid given to women under the Ladli Behna Yojana. Beginning after Diwali, the monthly support will be raised to ₹1,500 from the current ₹1,250.
Addressing a Women's Empowerment and Tribal Pride Conference in Sarai, Singrauli, the Chief Minister said, “More than 1.27 crore women are currently benefiting from the scheme, and to further empower them, the state government will increase the monthly aid to ₹1,500.”
He added that an additional ₹250 will be credited to beneficiaries’ accounts on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, providing them a festive bonus.
Special Budget Allocation for Women
CM Yadav said the government has earmarked a dedicated budget of ₹27,147 crore for women's welfare, of which ₹18,699 crore will be spent specifically on the Ladli Behna Yojana. The announcement reflects the state's commitment to social security and financial independence for women.
Other Key Announcements
The CM also reaffirmed the government's promise to implement 33% reservation for women in the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Referring to the Ladli Laxmi Yojana, Yadav mentioned that 51 lakh girls have benefited from the scheme, with a total of ₹672 crore disbursed so far.
He also highlighted that over 9,000 tribal families have received land rights under the Forest Rights Act, boosting tribal welfare in the state.
Background
The Ladli Behna Yojana was originally launched on June 10, 2023, by former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, starting with a monthly aid of ₹1,000 for eligible women. The scheme was a key contributor to the BJP’s landslide victory in the November 2023 Assembly Elections.
The proposed hike in financial support is likely to deepen the party’s reach among women voters and may play a decisive role in shaping electoral outcomes in the coming months.
