The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Madhya Pradesh Police on Tuesday detained around 10 people from two different cities of the state on suspicion of their alleged links with the radical outfit Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HUT).

A senior ATS police officer said that the ATS has detained eight to 10 people from different areas of Bhopal and Chhindwara for their alleged links with the radical organisation, and they are being interrogated.
The police officer said that the suspects have been detained from Aishbagh, Jawahar Colony and some other areas of the state capital Bhopal. The officer has not shared much information in this matter. However, if reliable sources are to be believed, objectionable literature, electronic equipment and some other materials have been seized from the possession of the detained people.

Among those detained is Mohammad Waseem, son of Rashida Bi, a survivor of the famous gas tragedy in Bhopal. Bhopal gas survivor activist said, “With guns in hand, the team reached the activist's (Rashida Bi) house and covered her son's face and took him into custody. They also confiscated the mobile phones of all the family members. He said that Wasim would be released after questioning.

According to the police, the HUT has spread its base in more than 50 countries, and trains its members in chemical warfare. The organization was not active in India for the last 13 years, but recently central agencies got inputs that it is setting up its base in India.

Earlier last year, several people were arrested from Bhopal for their alleged links with the banned group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh. Jihad-related literature and electronic equipment were also claimed to have been seized from them.
