In the direction of discouraging alcohol consumption in Madhya Pradesh, the state government on Sunday took a historic decision and approved the new excise policy, under which all liquor shops and 'shop bars' operating in the state will be closed.
The state cabinet has approved the proposal to end the facility of drinking at the 'shop bar' and to sell only liquor at the liquor shop. This announcement has come in the midst of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Uma Bharti's demand for a 'controlled liquor policy' in Madhya Pradesh.
Giving information about the important decisions taken in the cabinet meeting, Narottam Mishra said here, “The cabinet has taken a historic decision today in the direction of discouraging alcohol consumption in the state. All the liquor shops and shop bars in the state are being closed. No yard will remain operational in the state now.'
He said, “Only liquor will be sold at the liquor shop. The facility of drinking alcohol while sitting at liquor shops will also be closed in the state.
The minister said, “The distance of liquor shops from educational and religious institutions has also been increased from 50 meters to 100 meters. Along with this, strictness will also be increased on those who drive after drinking alcohol.'
Mishra said, “Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is working to discourage drinking. That's why no new liquor shops have been opened in the state since 2010, on the contrary, they have been closed." The new excise policy that has come is bound to discourage the consumption of alcohol.
