The Shram Kalyan Shaikshanik Chatravriti Yojana, launched by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, continues to benefit students from labour families in Madhya Pradesh, offering financial assistance to children of unorganised workers pursuing education.
Under the scheme, eligible students from classes 1 to post-graduation receive annual scholarships ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹25,000, depending on their education level. The scheme is applicable to children of workers registered with the Labour Welfare Board, covering both male and female students, with additional encouragement for girls and those pursuing technical or professional courses.
Objective and Impact
The primary objective is to encourage education among economically weaker sections, especially those from construction and other unorganised sectors. In states like Madhya Pradesh, where a significant population is engaged in such work, the scheme is proving instrumental in reducing dropout rates and promoting higher education.
Students who qualify need to submit relevant documents such as Aadhar, bank details, school/college enrollment certificates, and the worker’s registration proof on the official government platform MyScheme portal.
Government’s Commitment
Officials have highlighted that the initiative reflects the government's commitment to uplifting the lives of labourers not just through wages and welfare, but also by ensuring a brighter future for their children. Awareness camps and digital help kiosks are being set up in labour-dense districts of Madhya Pradesh to ensure more families benefit from this scheme.
Women Empowerment and Technical Education Push
Special focus is being given to girls’ education and skill development. The scheme provides higher scholarship amounts to female students enrolled in technical courses such as ITI, diploma, engineering, nursing, or pharmacy. This is expected to encourage more girls from labour households to pursue technical fields, thereby improving gender balance in skilled employment.
The Labour Welfare Board has urged all registered workers to avail of the scheme before the annual deadline, emphasizing that education is the strongest pillar of social upliftment. A toll-free helpline has also been launched in Madhya Pradesh for workers to get help in their regional language.
