Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday personally used a pickaxe to begin the demolition of a portion of his ancestral house in Ujjain as part of road-widening work ahead of Simhastha 2028. A section of the family property falls within the proposed alignment of the road being expanded for the major religious gathering.

Part of Ancestral House Affected by Road Widening
The ancestral house, built by Yadav’s grandfather Ramchandra Yadav in 1974, is located along a road that is being widened ahead of Simhastha 2028. Around 2.3 metres of the house falls within the proposed road alignment.
Yadav personally started the removal of the affected portion of the structure. His sister, Kalawati Yadav, whose house is also affected by the project, has said that the family is willing to give up the portion required for the road expansion.
₹9.80 Crore Road-Widening Project
The road project covers around 730 metres, extending from Khajurwali Masjid through Abdalpura and the Jiwajiganj police station area to Ganesh Chowk. The existing road is being widened to 15 metres, with the state government sanctioning around ₹9.80 crore for the project.
According to the report, the Ujjain Municipal Corporation has identified 272 buildings that will be affected by the widening work.
Mohan Yadav Highlights Public Participation
After initiating the demolition, Mohan Yadav said residents of Ujjain had voluntarily removed portions of their properties to facilitate development work ahead of Simhastha.
He described the participation of residents as an example of cooperation for the city’s preparations. Yadav also said that people from different communities had contributed to the development exercise, including by moving portions of places of worship where required.
Ujjain Prepares for Simhastha 2028
The road-widening project is part of preparations for Simhastha 2028, which is expected to bring a substantial increase in the movement of pilgrims and vehicles in Ujjain.
