Mohan Yadav Welcomes Cabinet Approval for SARTHAK-PDS Phase 2

Under the plan, existing foodgrain movement and Smart-PDS schemes will be integrated into a unified umbrella programme

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval for the ‘SARTHAK-PDS Phase 2’ scheme, aimed at strengthening and modernising India’s Public Distribution System (PDS).

The scheme has received approval for a central expenditure of ₹25,530 crore for the duration of the 16th Finance Commission period.

Mohan Yadav: Technology-Driven Reforms Planned in PDS

According to official details, the initiative seeks to create a more transparent, efficient, and citizen-centric ration distribution system through the use of advanced technologies.

The upgraded framework is expected to incorporate:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Machine Learning (ML)
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP)
  • Blockchain technology

Officials said these technologies will support real-time monitoring, AI-based grievance redressal, and improved supply chain management.

Focus on Food Security for NFSA Beneficiaries

The government stated that the scheme will help strengthen food security for around 81.35 crore beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

The initiative also includes:

  • Expansion of Aadhaar seeding
  • e-PoS automation
  • Computerised supply chain systems
  • Financial assistance for foodgrain transport and handling
  • Continued support for fair price shop dealers

Integrated and Interoperable PDS Structure

Under the plan, existing foodgrain movement and Smart-PDS schemes will be integrated into a unified umbrella programme expected to continue until March 31, 2031.

Officials said the reforms aim to improve transparency, reduce leakages, and modernize ration delivery mechanisms across states and Union Territories.

PM Narendra Modi Government Emphasizes Welfare Delivery

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the decision reflects the Centre’s focus on welfare delivery and food security for economically weaker sections of society.
