MP News: CM Mohan Yadav Declares State Honours for Organ Donors in Madhya Pradesh

In a historic and heartfelt move, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced that citizens who donate their bodies or vital organs such as heart, liver, or kidneys after death will be given a Guard of Honour during their final rites. Additionally, their families will be publicly honoured on Republic Day (January 26) and Independence Day (August 15) in official district-level ceremonies.

Madhya Pradesh to Honour Organ Donors with Guard of Honour

In a tweet, CM Mohan Yadav stated, "To give the gift of life after death... this is not merely a donation, it is immortality." He added that the initiative is aimed at recognizing and saluting the unparalleled generosity and humanity of those who contribute to saving lives even in death.

Following the Chief Minister’s directive, the General Administration Department (GAD) of Madhya Pradesh issued an official order on July 1, 2025, directing all Divisional Commissioners, District Collectors, and Police Commissioners/Superintendents across the state to implement the decision with immediate effect.

As per the government order (F 19-15/2024/1/4), the mortal remains of individuals who donate their organs or entire body will receive a formal Guard of Honour. Their families will be invited to participate in district-level Republic Day and Independence Day programs where they will be publicly recognised and honoured for their loved one’s selfless act.

The directive underscores the state’s commitment to creating a culture of awareness and respect around body and organ donation. Senior officials including the Additional Chief Secretaries of the Governor’s Secretariat, Chief Minister's Office, Home Department, and the Director General of Police have all been copied on the official correspondence, ensuring coordination across departments.

This move is seen as a step toward encouraging more people to come forward for organ and body donation and ensuring their noble contributions are remembered with dignity and state respect.
