MP News: In a bizarre incident from Chakghat village in Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh, a public lake has mysteriously gone missing. Unlike typical thefts involving cash or valuables, this case involves a missing Amrit Sarovar (public pond), allegedly built at a cost of ₹24.94 lakh. An RTI (Right to Information) query has revealed shocking irregularities, leaving villagers baffled and searching for a lake that may have never existed.
In Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa, a Lake Goes Missing – Villagers Announce Reward for Its Return
According to RTI activist Lalit Mishra, the lake was officially constructed on August 9, 2023, on land parcel number 117 in village Kathouli. However, when locals went looking for the pond, they found nothing at the reported location. Instead, a small dam was built on a nearby stream, and water was diverted into a private land (plot no. 122) allegedly belonging to the village sarpanch.
Villagers claim that there was no proper construction
Shockingly, after showing the dammed water as a completed lake, ₹24.94 lakh was withdrawn from public funds. Villagers claim that there was no proper construction, and the funds were siphoned off under the guise of development.
The sarpanch, Dhirendra Tiwari, is reportedly also a BJP leader and currently serves as the Raipur Mandal Vice President. The case has now drawn political attention and public outrage.
Chakghat police station in-charge Ghanshyam Tiwari confirmed receiving a complaint. The Rewa Collector Pratibha Pal has ordered a full investigation.
Villagers, frustrated by lack of results, have now begun public announcements and offered a reward for anyone who can help locate the “missing lake.”
As investigations continue, this case has become symbolic of growing concerns over corruption in rural development schemes—and how even something as big as a lake can seemingly vanish without a trace.
