In response to the laxity observed in the unauthorized operations of the Bal Grih Anchal (Children’s Home) in Tarasevaniyan, Bhopal, three officials from the Women and Child Development Department have been suspended by the Bhopal Divisional Commissioner. The investigation conducted by the district administration revealed that the institution failed to meet the standards set by the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015 and Model Rules 2016. The Children’s Home, in operation since 2020, was found to be unregistered under Section 41 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Concerns Over Missing Girls Addressed: Immediate Suspension of Officials
Recently, concerns were raised about the disappearance of 26 girls associated with the Children’s Home, located in Parvaliya, under the jurisdiction of the Parvaliya Police Station in the capital city. The administration’s search confirmed that all the girls had reached their respective homes. Pawan Sharma, the Commissioner of Bhopal Division, took stringent action by suspending three officials associated with the Women and Child Development Department for the violation of norms under the Juvenile Justice Act.
Legal Action Initiated: FIR Filed Against Institution Operator
The institution’s non-compliance with Section 41 of the Juvenile Justice Act was reported to the Parvaliya Police Station, leading to the registration of a first information report (FIR) against Anil Mathew, the institution’s operator, and an official. The 41 girls residing in the institution were presented before the Child Welfare Committee in Bhopal, and subsequently, 41 girls were placed in government-registered homes – 14 at the Nehru Nagar Balika Grih, 10 at the Bal Niketan Trust Bal Grih Bus Stand, and 17 at the Nitya Seva Society, People’s Lane, Gandhi Nagar.
