The Sagar-Kabrai Four-Lane Highway is set to play a crucial role in enhancing road infrastructure in Bundelkhand, connecting major cities of Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Madhya Pradesh (MP). The project, which began in 2023, aims to establish a direct link between cities like Indore, Bhopal, Kanpur, and Lucknow.

While the initial deadline for completion was 2026, delays in the tender process for the third and fourth phases have pushed the expected completion date by a year. However, with the recent finalization of tenders, work on the highway is set to accelerate in the coming months.

Hurdles Cleared for Sagar-Kabrai Four-Lane Highway

With the tendering process for Phase 3 and Phase 4 now complete, the Kanpur-Sagar Four-Lane Highway is expected to be operational soon.

Phase 3: Covers the stretch from Sathia Ghati (Chhatarpur) to Chauka village.

Phase 4: Covers the stretch from Chauka village to Kaimaha Barrier, totaling 98 km.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Chhatarpur awarded the Phase 3 contract to MKC Infrastructure, while Belgian company Belj secured the Phase 4 contract.

Despite previous delays due to the NHAI’s tender process, the recent approvals have paved the way for rapid construction, and authorities are optimistic about meeting the revised timeline.

₹2,653 Crore Highway to Connect Key Industrial Cities

The 223.7 km-long Sagar-Kabrai Four-Lane Highway is expected to significantly boost industrial and economic development in both states. The highway will pass through Banda, Shahgarh, Badamalahara, Chhatarpur, Garhi Malhara, Srinagar, and Mahoba.

The project has an estimated cost of ₹2,653 crore and is expected to eventually connect Lucknow, forming part of the Bhopal-Lucknow Economic Corridor. Once completed, the highway will enhance trade, improve transportation, and contribute to regional growth, making travel between MP and UP smoother and faster.
