Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti has camped in the temple in front of a liquor shop here till January 31, demanding the inclusion of a controlled liquor distribution system in it, ahead of the Madhya Pradesh government's possible new liquor policy coming three days later. Uma Bharti, who supports complete prohibition, has been demanding for a long time to change the liquor policy of Madhya Pradesh and implement a controlled liquor distribution system to promote de-addiction.
"I never said that there should be complete prohibition"
Uma Bharti reached a temple located at Ayodhya Nagar Tirahe in Bhopal on Saturday afternoon. Here she announced that she would stay in this temple for the next three days waiting for the announcement of the state government's new liquor policy on January 31 and would sit here and listen to it. She said, “I never said that there should be complete prohibition. I had said that if it was in my control, I would have implemented total prohibition. I have full faith in Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. I will wait for the decision regarding the new liquor policy on January 31."
Announced two days ago
The BJP leader said that she does not want the Congress to benefit from her stand. He said that if the BJP-led state government implements a controlled liquor distribution system, then the BJP will repeat its record victory in the assembly elections to be held in November this year, like the 2003 assembly elections in the state. It may be known that two days ago, while addressing a program organized at the Garrison Ground in Jabalpur on the 74th Republic Day, Chief Minister Chouhan had said, “We are going to bring a new liquor policy. Will try our best to discourage the habit of intoxication."
