Manipur Unrest: Violence gripped Bishnupur in the state of Manipur after a 4-year-old boy and his newborn sister were killed while they were sleeping. The two children were sleeping when a rocket-like projectile struck their home Bishnupur home on early Tuesday morning. The incident sparked massive protests during which 2 civilians were killed in firing by CRPF.
The Manipur government has temporarily suspended internet services in five districts of the valley – Thoubal, Kakching, Imphal East, Imphal West and Bishnupur for a period of 3 days to maintain law and order.

Manipur Unrest-Turn Of Events
In Tronglaobi Awang Leikai village, the early morning attack happened along the sensitive boundary between the Kuki-Zomi-dominated hills and the Meitei-dominated valley. Mother of the children was severely injured in the blast and is presently being treated at a nearby hospital.
The children’s father is a solider posted in Bihar. The Border Security Force (BSF) employee and his family have been living in the village for several years.
Bishnupur erupted in massive and intense protests immediately after news of the death of the minors spread. Many protestors burnt tyres and enforced road blockades. Three trucks including 2 oil tankers were set ablaze. In Imphal, crowd blocked roads and disrupted traffic. The state government ordered the closure of all business establishments.
CM Condemns The Attack
Okram Ibobi Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur, condemned the attack on minors as a barbaric act. Singh added that the attack has derailed the hard-earned peace in the state. The CM also urged the state’s residents to observe calmness, peace and brotherhood while staying united and resolute against all those who want to disturb the state’s collective harmony.
Former CM N Biren Singh also condemned the attack and expressed his grief over the disastrous tragedy. The former CM commented that perpetrators of the crime must be immediately brought to justice so that civilian safety gets reinforced.
