Manipur Violence: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, in his New Year message, reflected on the ethnic violence that has gripped the state for the past 20 months. While extending apologies to victims, he expressed optimism for peace and unity in 2025, urging communities to come together to rebuild a harmonious Manipur.
Reflecting on the challenges of 2024, CM Biren Singh acknowledged the struggles caused by prolonged Manipur violence, which displaced thousands of people. “Many are still seeking shelter in relief camps and with friends or relatives,” he said, emphasising the need for introspection by both the government and citizens.
Despite efforts to restore normalcy, Singh admitted that the state has much more to achieve. "The anguish in the hearts of many persists, but rest assured, the government remains committed to compassion, neutrality, and peace,” he stated, urging everyone to overcome hatred and work toward reconciliation.
In his statement, CM Biren Singh extended an apology to those affected by the Manipur violence. “I deeply regret the unfortunate events that have caused the loss of lives and forced many to flee their homes,” he said, acknowledging the pain endured by countless families since May last year.
While expressing sorrow, Singh highlighted the positive developments of the past few months and voiced hope that 2025 would mark a turning point. He appealed to all 34–35 communities in Manipur to forgive past grievances and join hands to create a prosperous and united state. “We can live together after forgiving what has already happened,” he emphasised.
In his New Year message, Singh called for renewed efforts to overcome the divisions caused by the Manipur violence. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), he greeted the people of Manipur, saying, “As we welcome 2025, let us renew our commitment to peace, harmony, and progress for our state.”
