In a strong display of corruption-free Delhi, MCD Mayor Shaili Oberoi has ordered the removal of Chief Assessor and Collector Kunal Kashyap. The action was taken after multiple charges of corruption against him. Further, the Mayor has also ordered an inquiry by the Vigilance Department into all his works so far. Kunal was accused of allegedly providing undue assistance of Rs 4 crore to an influential person in the house tax invasion case.
MCD in loss due to corruption
Shelly Oberoi said that MCD is running at a loss due to corruption. She ordered that an honest officer will be brought in Kunal’s place. Along with this, the Mayor has started the investigation of different departments of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
Regarding the action taken on Kunal, the Mayor said that due to other such cases also the MCD would have suffered a huge loss of thousands of crores. Had these matters been dealt with honestly in the previous governments, the MCD might have been in profit. Reiterating CM Arvind Kejriwal’s zero-tolerance policy, she said that AAP will win back the trust of the people. There is no scope for corruption in MCD under the AAP government, she said.
Shelly Oberoi added that MCD is suffering financially due to corrupt officers. She said that the money is to be spent in public. But such officials are waiving house tax in huge amounts by taking bribes. The regime has now changed, she said.

Strong action against the corrupt officer
Showing commitment to eradicating corruption, the mayor has directed the commissioner to take back all responsibilities from Kunal Kashyap and appoint an officer of impeccable integrity in his place. The move is aimed at upholding the principles of ethical governance within the MCD and restoring public confidence.
Kunal Kashyap is now under investigation for allegedly ‘deliberate delay in handling the tax evasion case’. Allegations have been leveled against him in many other cases and complaints have also been received. Expressing concern over the seriousness of the matter, Shelly wrote a letter to the commissioner and directed to take immediate action against the officer. Through this, the Mayor has also expressed concern over the challenging economic condition of the MCD.
