After incessant rainfall triggered waterlogging in Delhi, a rise in number of dengue cases was repaired in July. As per the latest data shared by the MCD, a total of 65 cases have been reported so far in comparison to a total of 26 cases that were reported in July last year.
Rise in Dengue cases in Delhi
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has recently shared date which suggests that as many as 65 cases of dengue have been reported in Delhi. The sharp increase in number can be credited to a flood-like situation in the national capital due to heavy to very heavy rainfall. The data provided by the MCD also suggests that the number of cases of dengue reported in 2023 is the highest since 2016 when 61 such cases were reported. Along with dengue, the cases of malaria are also on the rise, the civic body said.
MCD cautions residents against water-borne diseases
The MCD has issued a notice suggesting residents living in mosquito-genie conditions. 5,524 notices were issued in the last week and 2,495 prosecutions have been launched.
“Our dengue operations go on throughout the year and not just during dengue-malaria-chikungunya season… DCB workers are visiting as many houses as possible, fieldworkers are spraying medicine, and special emphasis is being laid on recognising areas where mosquitoes are breeding,” an MCD official said.
MCD hospitals prepared for the atrocities
The officials have affirmed that all equipment for dengue control are in their place and MCD hospitals are preparing to deal with the surge.
“In case of a virus like dengue, there is no permanent solution and only precautionary methods can be adopted by the corporation to limit its spread…,” he said.
