MCD to let owners geo-tag their properties, launches app

House owners residing in the MCD region can now easily geotag their properties using the Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC) by using a mobile app or the website of the local government. The smooth payment of taxes is now possible thanks to this new option, especially for owners of numerous homes with various UPICs. With the help of the geotagging programme, property owners can give each of their properties a special latitude and longitude on a map created using a geographic information system (GIS). Each property receives a location-specific identity by selecting the present location against the UPIC, enabling improved service delivery by the MCD. Additionally, to simplify record-keeping and contact information, every UPIC will be connected to the owner's phone number.

Geo-tagging to provide location-wise identification

Property taxpayers will no longer be required to give information each time they file their taxes as a result of this development.

"The geo-tagging of properties by taxpayers will provide a location-wise identification of individual properties and will enable better provisioning of service delivery to the citizen by the MCD. The feature includes assigning a unique latitude and longitude to a property on a GIS map by selecting the current location against any UPIC," an MCD official said. All the UPICs will be linked to the owner's phone number.

About the mobile app

Owners can access the mobile app's official website at https://mcdonline.nic.in/mcdapp.html or download it from the Google Play Store. According to the official, the software will also be accessible for iOS devices within the following two weeks. The MCD exhorts the public to quickly finish geotagging their homes.

The local body has employed workers to collect checks and set up camps in conjunction with Resident Welfare organisations (RWAs) and market organisations in various sites to simplify the collection of property taxes. Individuals are recommended to contact the zonal offices or headquarters to handle any website-related issues or worries regarding tax submission.
