The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has made an investment of Rs 35 crore allotted by the Delhi government for the repair work in 252 schools. Currently, 191 buildings are undergoing minor renovations, and Rs 2.5 crore funding has been assigned to the school principal for carrying out the renovation work. As many as 61 schools will undergo complete transformation with the projects expected to finish by 2023–2024. The Delhi government has approved Rs 20 crore for the same.
Renovating 192 MCD school buildings
The officials said that the work in 192 schools will be finished by the end of July. The details of the project have been thoroughly discussed with engineers, he said.
"We anticipate finishing the work in 192 schools by the end of July. After discussing specifics with us and based on their priorities, the principals will complete the work. The engineering department will create a tender after receiving cash from the education department for 61 school structures," the official said. He added, "The engineering work would entail renovating school buildings in two to three locations, updating sewage systems, restrooms, and correcting wall fractures after determining the primary reason."
Extensive renovations in 61 buildings
As many as 61 school buildings will undergo extensive renovations, including five in each of the following zones: central, south, west, Shahdara south, Shahdara north, Civil Lines, Narela, Najafgarh, Rohini, and Keshavpuram. Meanwhile, six school buildings in city-Sadar Paharganj have been chosen for extensive refurbishment with the complete change in architecture.
Each school received a subsidy from MCD last year ranging from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh for summertime bathroom renovations and whitewashing. However, the amount was not enough to carry out the renovation work, therefore, each school has been allocated with a fund after thorough consideration to carryout the work.
