According to reports, Shivam was taken into custody two days ago by the Kanti police in connection with a suspected bike theft case. On Thursday, news of his sudden death in police custody spread rapidly, sparking anger among locals. Residents accused the police of brutality and misconduct, claiming that Shivam was tortured during interrogation.
As news of the custodial death surfaced, a large crowd gathered outside Kanti police station, demanding strict action against the officers responsible. The protest soon escalated into violence, with enraged locals storming the police station, breaking furniture, and vandalizing property. Videos of the incident, now viral on social media, show protesters damaging police vehicles and pelting stones at the station.
In response to the escalating violence, a heavy police force was deployed to control the situation. Senior officials have assured the public that an inquiry has been launched to investigate the circumstances surrounding Shivam’s death.
"A judicial inquiry has been ordered to ensure transparency in the investigation. Strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty," said a senior police officer.
Despite police assurances, protests continue as locals and Shivam’s family demand accountability. They insist on suspension and arrest of the officers involved, alleging that police brutality led to the death.
The incident has once again raised concerns over custodial deaths in India, highlighting the need for police accountability and transparency in law enforcement. Authorities have urged calm as investigations proceed.
