Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced a significant step forward in India’s railway modernization efforts. After receiving an overwhelmingly positive response on the #NamoBharat trains operating between Ahmedabad-Bhuj and Jaynagar-Patna, the government has approved the manufacturing of 50 new Namo Bharat trains.
The Railway Minister emphasized that once these 150 semi-high-speed trains are deployed across the country, it will drastically improve passenger comfort, frequency, and punctuality—especially in high-density routes where demand is often unmet.

These new-generation trains are designed with modern features, including faster acceleration, energy efficiency, comfortable seating, automatic doors, bio-vacuum toilets, and smart safety systems. The Namo Bharat trains are part of India’s Make in India initiative and represent a push toward next-gen rail infrastructure.
Vaishnaw also mentioned that this move is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of creating world-class transport connectivity, while ensuring regional economic development and faster mobility for all citizens.
Deployment of these trains will begin in phases, with priority given to congested corridors and routes with high passenger load. Trials and manufacturing work for the new fleet will begin later this year.
This development marks a transformational shift in India’s passenger rail experience and is expected to strengthen the backbone of public transportation over the next few years.
