Passport Row Escalates: Witch Hunt or….? NSUI Hits Street in Support of Pawan Khera

The passport row involving Pawan Khera and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has intensified. NSUI staged protests after police action at Khera’s residence, with Congress calling it a witch hunt and BJP rejecting the claims.

Pawan Khera: The “passport row” that is still going on has caused a huge political storm between Congress leader Pawan Khera and Himanta Biswa Sarma. The argument started when Khera said that the Chief Minister’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, has more than one passport and owns foreign property that she hasn’t told anyone about.

Khera says that these assets were not listed in official election documents, which raises questions about how open the process was. But the Assam government and BJP leaders have strongly denied the claims, saying they are false and were made up using fake or AI-based content.

Police action turns a fight into a legal battle

Things got worse when the Assam Police searched Khera’s home in Delhi. Riniki Bhuyan Sharma filed a criminal defamation complaint, which led to the action.

Congress leaders are now accusing the state government of using law enforcement agencies in the wrong way, which has made the political fight worse. Himanta Biswa Sarma, on the other hand, has defended the action and said that there will be harsh legal consequences if the claims are found to be false or based on fake documents.

NSUI Protests in the Streets

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) held protests in Delhi and Assam, and the issue quickly went beyond political statements.

Outside of Assam Bhawan, student leaders chanted slogans against the police and burned effigies of the Chief Minister. The protests are meant to make the situation look like an attack on free speech and an attempt to silence those who disagree.

Political War of Words Gets Worse

The argument has now turned into a full-blown political fight between the Congress and the BJP. Congress leaders call the police action a “witch hunt,” but BJP leaders say that making unproven claims should have legal consequences.

Himanta Biswa Sarma has also been very harsh in his responses, publicly attacking Khera and calling the claims “baseless propaganda.”
