In a major boost to railway connectivity between Bihar and the national capital, a new Amrit Bharat Express train—featuring high-speed and Vande Bharat-like amenities—is set to be launched between Patna and Delhi. The train will be inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 18, and its regular operations will begin on July 20.
Travel Time Reduced to 10 Hours
Running at a top speed of 130 km/h, the Amrit Bharat Express will cover the 1000-km journey in just 10 hours, significantly cutting down travel time between Patna and Delhi. The train aims to offer passengers a comfortable and time-efficient travel experience, especially for daily commuters and long-distance travelers.
No AC Coaches, Yet Modern Facilities
Unlike premium trains, the Amrit Bharat Express will not have AC coaches. Instead, it will feature General and Sleeper coaches, with sleeper fare estimated at around ₹1065. However, the facilities will resemble those of the Vande Bharat Express. The orange and grey-colored coaches will include:
Modern, clean bio-toilets
Digital information boards
CCTV cameras in each coach for safety
LED lighting and bright interiors
Charging points
Seamless access between coaches
Route and Halts
Although official details on the route, fare, and timings are yet to be released by Indian Railways, sources indicate the train will halt at 12 key stations, including:
Ara
Buxar
Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction (DDU)
Mirzapur
Prayagraj
Kanpur Central
Etawah
More stations are expected to be confirmed soon.
Rake and Deployment
By July 16, a 22-coach rake is expected to be delivered to Danapur Railway Division and Delhi. The train is being developed under the Amrit Bharat scheme, which aims to bring affordable high-speed rail travel to the general public using indigenous technology.
This launch reflects the government’s continued focus on modernizing railway infrastructure while making faster and safer travel accessible to all.
