PM Modi: During his speech at an energetic electoral rally in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on September 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the region’s democratic advancements and outlined his plans for a “New Kashmir.” With voting taking place without the usual terror threats, this address came after the first round of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, which marked a historic occasion.
Festival of Democracy in Jammu and Kashmir
The ongoing assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have been praised by Prime Minister Modi as a “festival of democracy.” In addition to highlighting the historic significance, he pointed out that, in contrast to earlier elections in the area, the most recent voting process was held without the constant fear of terrorism. During the first round of the elections, which were held in seven districts, PM Modi claimed pride in the high voter turnout.
Criticism of Political Dynasties
During his speech, PM Modi took a firm stance against what he described as the three influential families responsible for the region’s challenges. He said, “When I had come here a few days ago, I had said three families were responsible for destruction of Jammu and Kashmir. Since then, these people from Jammu and Kashmir to Delhi have freaked out. These three families feel that how can anyone raise question on them? These three families feel that it is their birthright to somehow grab power and loot you all. To keep people of Jammu and Kashmir away from their rights have been the political agenda of these people.”
Vision for a ‘New Kashmir’
PM Modi’s vision for “New Kashmir” was a central theme of his address. He spoke about the transformation he envisions for the region, driven by an active and engaged populace. PM Modi said, “The enthusiasm of the youth, the message of peace in the eyes of the elders, and the large number of mothers and sisters, this is the ‘Naya Kashmir’.”
Commitment to Statehood and Development
A commitment that many in the region find extremely significant, PM Modi reaffirmed in his speech the BJP’s commitment to restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. He stated, “Jammu and Kashmir will become a state again and the BJP will fulfill this commitmen.”
